TECHAGE RECOMMENDS WINDOWS 10


Windows 10, Microsoft’s new operating system is getting rave reviews. It brings back the ease of use of Windows 7 and older Windows versions while keeping all of the great new features of Windows 8. Best of all, it is a FREE upgrade for current users of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. We think you’ll like Windows 10. Of course, TechAge will be there to help you make the transition with our Meet Windows 10, Introduction to Windows 10 and Take Control of Windows 10 classes.


ABOUT TechAge CLASSES

All TechAge classes are small with a maximum of 10 students, one Instructor and up to three coaches to help students master the content. Students use individual PCs and free help sessions are available from noon - 2 pm weekdays.


HOW TO REGISTER

Registration is easy. Call 461-2000 Ext. 463 or stop by the Learning Center. The registration desk is staffed from noon - 2 pm every weekday.

USING GMAIL AND GOOGLE APPS


Experts say that Gmail is the best free email service. In this class, you will find out why Gmail is for you, how to switch to it, set up your account and use it. Already using Gmail, you'll learn how to take advantage of its many useful features. You will also learn to use many of the free Google Apps that come along with your Gmail account.1-Lesson. Fee $25.

BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER


Hard drives fail, computers get hacked. We now store our family photos and other irreplaceable documents on our PCs. This class will show you how to protect your important files with simple backup techniques.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET SAFETY


Hackers want to steal your money and your personal information. In this class, you will learn about the threats on the Internet and in email and learn how to protect yourself. Course taught on a Windows computer, but applicable to any computer.

GET TO KNOW WINDOWS 10 – THE BASICS


New to Windows 10 or need a refresher? You’ll learn the essential skills you need to get the most from your PC. How to use and customize the Start menu, use free word processing tools, search using Cortana voice search, manage your files, use the Internet, download and use Apps from the App Store, and more.

GET TO KNOW WINDOWS 10 – THE APPLICATIONS


This class builds on the skills taught in “Get to Know Windows 10 – the Basics”. You will learn to safely use your PC with popular Apps to access news, information and entertainment, use the Internet and email, work with photos and backup your computer and files.4-Lessons.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR WINDOWS 10 EXPERIENCE


Go beyond the basics with this Windows 10 class. Learn to customize your computer, use standard apps to manage photo images and play music/video files, keep your computer safe and up-to-date, organize and back up your files.
Prerequisite: Intermediate computer skills.

GET ORGANIZED - FILE MANAGEMENT


Learn to organize your PC’s “electronic filing cabinet”, create an efficient filing system and save files and folders so you can find them later. You will also learn how to create, move, search for, delete and protect your files and folders and to organize your e-mails and Internet “Favorites”. Course taught with Windows 10 but applicable to both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

GET TO KNOW GENEALOGY BASICS


Get started on documenting your family history in this 2-lesson class with step-by-step instructions. Learn to use the free FamilySearch.org web site to create your family tree and discover more about your family.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

USING TWITTER


In this 2-lesson class, learn how to stay on top of current events, financial news or your favorite celebrities using Twitter, a popular social networking tool.

USING MICROSOFT EXCEL


Learn the basics of creating simple spreadsheets to organize, calculate and display data. These spreadsheets can be used to create and analyze household budgets, financial portfolios, address lists and endless other practical applications. Skills learned apply to all recent versions of Microsoft Excel.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills. A USB flash drive is required for this class.
